World of Warcraft Item Upgrades The upgrade of an item can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade, it can increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level and boost additional stats. Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount. Item Level When an item gets upgraded, its stats improve in value. The value is the sum of all its upgraded perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, dependent on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to perform. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded. It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. item upgrader can also be used as a gating requirement while waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at the lower levels). Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet. Utilizing the level of an item will allow players to compare the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a sign of the damage and its quality. Comparing items from a vendor's stock can be done using the item level. On PC, you are able to view the item level by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including the ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat. There are a variety of theories on the method by which the level of an item is determined. One theory states that the level of an item is determined by formulas that determine the value of an item's stats actually are. It takes into consideration that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets boost the value of the item. This can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl, which is usually quite close to Blizzard's actual item level. However, this isn't the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, since the level of the region the item was dropped in could change the value of its stats, for example by adding an amount to its haste or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher value. Item Stats The stats of an item are a major component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being “the most effective.” The base stats on a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods which are then boosted by the player's level. The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats on the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item will only be upgraded once, while items with rare tiers will be upgraded several times, at higher costs. Another method to alter the stats of an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to give items extra damage, special abilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs), or to distinguish them by naming them. All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This will cost a certain amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other methods of rerolling. In addition to rerolling affixes, players can select which of the available stats to be kept on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the specified range, unless it's an item that is unique or a God roll from a boss in a raid. This is another thing that can be modified by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or deciding which stats to increase. Like base equipment, it must be done per item and the interface for item comparison wouldn't display all possible stats at once. Item Luck The Luck stat of a player can increase the chance of finding items as well as the properties spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. It doesn't, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players the chance to acquire better equipment in earlier waves and is thus more useful in early game runs than later ones because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains. In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances, which increase with each new level of item. They can also be enhanced by using anti-materials such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing. Armor, shields and weapons can be created or spawned with the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to increase the value of 40 luck, or to increase the luck of the item to 140. Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage of any ability that causes damage by 5%. These items can be purchased at the store or made using the correct ingredients. Item Failure Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to boost the success rate of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their items if it does not work. The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item, and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on how much the success rates can be improved and the chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.. The success of an item upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. Every item has a base success rate of 25%, and every item that has Luck increases that chance by five percent. Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects may be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
